Uganda Wildlife Authority directorate of Conservation has completed the process of habituating a family of Golden monkeys for experiential tourism as a strategy to diversify tourism activities within Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. It is now possible for clients to stay with the monkeys for four hours. The product is now ready for the market, according to UWA management. Golden Monkey Habituation experience permit cost USD 100 and can be booked at Uganda Wildlife Authority head office.
The maximum number per visiting group per day will be 6 people who can see these monkeys either in the morning or afternoon. The activity takes place in the morning and afternoon and lasts an average of four hours each session. The golden monkey habituation is guided by scientific researches. Bookings are done at both headquarters and the national park offices in Kisoro and Ntebeko. One must keep in mind that the beautiful monkeys only exist in the bamboo forest of the Virunga Volcanoes and you have to be in reasonable fit to hike up to their habitat which is the most rewarding experience.
