Northern Uganda is one of the gifted regions in terms of tourist attractions. Once you choose to go and discover northern Uganda, you choose either to take the eastern route or the northern route.

When you take the eastern route, you will start from Entebbe, jinja, mbale and continue north wards. You choose to take the northern route, you will start from Entebbe, Luwero, Nakasongola, and Masindi and continue north wards. The following are a must see on your northern Uganda safari.

Kidepo Valley National Park famously known and commonly visited because it is considered as a birders paradise as it is ranked among the best birding safari areas in the country. This national park is a home to over 450 bird species and a dozen of 50 birds of prey species, which are found in the Karamoja region. This park is among the best wilderness areas in Africa.

Apoka Tourism Centre. Overlooking the game-rich Narus Valley and home to an upmarket lodge and simple UWA-run cottages, Apoka is the park’s tourism hub. The centre is the main park office where every traveller going to the park must report to clear the park entrance fees as well as booking the ranger to take you though the park.

 Narus Valley is the arena for tourism drama. It is this valley that holds water even after a long drought attracting a great number of wild animals to parade here looking for water and greener pastures.

You will be escorted by a ranger who is able to interpret wildlife scenarios fully conversant with the wildlife hideouts and habits. You will be able to spot lions, buffalos, giraffes, leopards, hartebeests, zebras, waterbucks, cheetah and many beautiful birds.

 Kidepo Valley and Kanangorok Hot Springs famous for the Borassus palm trees a delicacy to the elephants as well as the community. The valley becomes a wildlife paradise during the rainy season where there are green pastures for them to feed one. In the dry season, it dries up completely making the animals to migrate to the other parts especially the Narus valley.

The hot spring is near the kidepo river. You can sit here and view mountains and savannah plains in Karamoja area. The locals of the area have belief that this spring has healing powers and spiritual cleanser. Expect to find locals bathing in the spring waters.

 Mount Morungule featuring exciting and dramatic landscapes, creating an illusion of rocks that are about to topple onto Kaabong at any time. Passing through the fabled Ik community is a cultural highlight. The actual summit of Morungole is a place of immense spiritual significance to the Ik and out of bounds to visitors, but you can head to an alternative peak and take in the stunning views of Kidepo Valley National Park.

Namamukweny Valley is a Napore word meaning a place with no birds or a lonely place with few people – though regarding the birds, quite the opposite is true! The valley is inhabited by a large number of bird species such as the Eastern Paradise Whydah, White-crested Turaco, Common Bulbul, Abyssinian Roller and Green Wood Hoopoe among others.

Lomej Hills are a good viewing point for birds and wildlife, including the mountain reedbuck.

Lonyili Mountain covered in montane forest and home to primates such as colobus monkeys. Due to poor conditions in this area the road is currently out of use.

Murchison Falls National Park offers diverse activities, including game drives, boat cruises to the bottom of the falls or along the Nile, chimpanzee trekking, hiking, and nature walks.

You do a game drive in the park either morning or afternoon which will give you the opportunity to see a good number of wildlife. Among the large mammals found in the park are hippos, elephants, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, Uganda Kob, hartebeests, and lions. The park also has a variety of primates, including over 800 chimpanzees, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and blue monkeys.

You will go for boat cruise while on your safari to Murchison Falls national park. The three-hour launch trip from Paraa up the base of the falls is one of the popular things to do in Murchison Falls National Park. You have three-time options that is 9am, 2pm and 3pm to choose from with the opportunity to let you off the trailhead for the nature walk to the Top of the Falls. You will be picked up by your driver guide from the Top of the Falls.

Fort Patiko – Baker’s Fort a military fort built by Sir Samuel Baker in Patiko, Gulu District, northern Uganda. Construction of the Fort was completed in 1872. In 1888 after sir Samuel Baker had left, the site was occupied by Emin Pasha and Charles Gordon while they served as governors of the equatorial province of the British Uganda protectorate.

Mountain Moroto found in the far eastern Uganda and is the most easily reached destination to view a number of the northeastern “special”, most of them within the western border of their ranges border that starts with Mount Elgon in the south and encompasses Mountains Kadam plus Morungole.

Ajai Game Reserve consists of mainly woodlands, Savannah plains and swamps. You will spot Black & White Colobus monkeys, black cobras, red monkeys, buffaloes, civets, bush-buck, the Common Duiker, puff adders, zebras, pythons, foxes, Vervet Monkeys, green snakes, Leopards, Sitatunga, Oribi, hartebeest, hippopotamuses, Dik Dik, Monitor lizards, Olive baboons, the Uganda Kob, warthogs and waterbucks.

Aruu Falls, Achwa River nestled in the heart of a lush and enchanting landscape, captivates the senses with its breathtaking beauty. Located in a remote and pristine region, this natural wonder is a testament to the raw and unspoiled allure of Mother Nature.

Pian upe is one of Uganda’s best kept secrets. Is one protected area that has not been fully explored by many and paying a visit here means a great opportunity for you to get the best of African experiential safari holiday.

You will have the opportunity to see wildlife like zebras, buffaloes, leopards, lions, giraffes, greater Kudus, Topis, Oribis, Hartebeests, dik-dik, roan antelopes, jackals, aardvark, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, elands, hedgehogs, birds such as Ostriches, Jackson’s hornbills, white headed buffalo weaver, hartlaub’s bustard as well as primates like olive baboons, patas monkeys, vervet monkeys and others.

Sipi Falls is a hidden gem located on the slopes of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda. Sipi Falls is one of the most famous destinations in Uganda “named hikers paradise “which offers amazing hiking adventure activities including hiking Sipi Falls, abseiling, coffee tour experience, sunset walk, and rock-climbing experience.

Nakapelimoru the largest traditional village in East Africa and home to the Jie people of Karamoja. The community has grown over the years and culture has been preserved like the controversial facial and body scarification. During the visit you’ll start with a climb to a nearby rock formation for an introduction about the village from above.
